Who is Desi Perkins?
Desi Perkins is an American beauty YouTuber who is also active on Instagram, TikTok and other social media. She was born on 3rd March 1987, in Los Angeles, California. She grew up with three brothers. After graduating high school, she attended college in order to become an elementary school teacher. Desi has been working several jobs since she was 14 years old, but she focused on perfecting her makeup skills in her free time. Her beauty skills included fashion, which led her to work as a fashion illustrator for a beauty brand.

In 2011, Desi became so proud of her skills that she created an Instagram account to post her makeup looks on. Between working her fashion job and improving her makeup skills, she always found the time to watch YouTube makeup tutorials which she very much enjoyed. On Halloween of 2012, she got a chance to put her newly acquired skills to use. Her husband, Steven Perkins, wanted to attend a Halloween party and was in need of a costume. Desi took all of her products and created skeleton-like makeup along with his outfit. Steven was thrilled about his new look and posted a picture on his Instagram, where he tagged Desi and publicly thanked her. Just a couple hours later, Desi’s phone was full of requests from possible future clients.

Desi decided to give it a try and became a freelance makeup artist, creating people’s requested makeup looks. It was going very well, and since she previously wanted to teach children, she decided to teach makeup on the internet. With that goal, she created her YouTube channel in 2013 and began posting immediately. Steven was a big help with starting her YouTube career. He is working as a Graphic Designer and a Photographer and offered to help Desi with editing her videos.
Desi’s skills don’t end with makeup looks. She is also talented at giving fashion advice and styling her hair. These three abilities are the main pillars of her YouTube channel. The fashion section consists of so-called Look Books, where Desi styles a couple of outfits fit for one season or occasion. She became proficient in composing clothing, creating resulting fashion looks and finally shooting them in all the perfect angles. Her channel’s hair section consists of hairstyle tutorials, tips on how to maintain healthy hair while styling them daily and reviews on new hair products and if they’re worth the money. Makeup occupies the more significant part of her content, but there is one series that stands out, and it is just the thing that made her famous: Halloween looks. Desi trained herself not only in primary makeup products but also in Special FX, which come in handy just around in time for Halloween. In this series, everything from celebrity costumes, through skeletons and ghosts, to movie characters can be found.

Desi was fortunate to collaborate with many makeup and fashion brands throughout her YouTube career. She also worked with a few celebrities, such as J.Lo and Kim Kardashian. As her first business, she launched a sunglasses line called Dezi. Desi was surrounded by skincare tips while growing up because her Latino family was very focused on their skin. Ever since she started to wear a full face of makeup almost daily, she realized that it is much easier when her skin is healthy. Following that, she decided to create her own brand of skincare in 2021. Her company is called Dezi Skin and began by launching a face serum with vitamin C.
In 2020, Desi with Steven had their first child. Since then, her YouTube content had slightly changed when she started to film her pregnancy journey. She is more than happy about her family life, and besides YouTube, she likes to post her child on TikTok as well. Despite that, she remains on the same track and continues to post makeup tutorials and hairstyles. But since her skin and hair changed during pregnancy, she is now more focused on doing what works best for moms.
