About PewDiePie

Felix Arvid Ulf Kjellberg is a Swedish YouTuber born on October 24, 1989. He's 31 years old and the online audience knows him as PewDiePie or simply Pewds. He's one of the most popular YouTubers in the world of the last ten years. PewDiePie is also considered a comedian, gamer, vlogger, and influencer. Felix and his Italian wife Marzia started their own clothing store named Tsuki Market. Now, they live together in Brighton, England.

Who is PewDiePie?

Felix was born in Gothenburg, Sweden, in 1989. He's got one older sister and two loving parents. Today, he lives with his wife Marzia Kjellberg in Brighton, England. He graduated in 2008 and then attended the Chalmers University of Technology. After two years, Felix decided to leave the school because he was bored. As he says. Many people think he left the university because of YouTube, but according to his words, it's not true. It would make him stupid, he added. He loved to skip classes only to play video games with his friends. Just like a lot of us, but not everyone is as famous as Pewd, right?

Before he started making money on YouTube, he had to take care of himself in other ways, which brought him to his first job – selling hot dogs on a beach. In 2019, Felix decided to marry the woman of her life after 8 years of relationship. Marzia Kjellberg was also a YouTube star, but she's not active anymore.

YouTube Career

PewDiePie's YouTube career started on December 19, 2006, as he joined YouTube as Pewdie. This has something to do with the sound of shooting in video games and the consequence of it. His channel Pewdie offered gaming videos from Call of Duty. After four years, he forgot the password to this channel which made him create a new account. All he did was adding Pie at the end of his former nickname because he just loves pies. And that was the beginning of an amazing career of the famous PewDiePie.

In 2010 and 2011, he continued with Call of Duty clips on his new channel and, together with his friend Baz also started creating Minecraft let's plays. In these years, he made everything by himself. That means playing the game and editing the clips that gave him thousands of first subscribers. But the real breakthrough came together with the horror game Amnesia. Playing this scary game attracted tens of thousands of new fans. He discovered what the YouTube audience loves and spent more time playing horror video games.

How many subscribers does Pewdiepie have?

His journey to becoming the most subscribed YouTube channel of all time continued in 2012 as he made a few controversial clips with his infamous dark humor. Together with playing the games and his typical humor, his subscribers' number jumped from 100k to over 3,5 million subscribers in that year. But it was still only the beginning. He aimed higher and made everything to become the number one among all YouTube stars.

In 2013, he finally made it. The August 15, 2013, was the day PewDiePie reached his goal. He surpassed Smosh, and his channel became the most subscribed channel in history. After this day, it was a huge fight between Pewd and the YouTube Spotlight channel. The fanbase of both channels wanted to make their champion the number one at the end of the year. On December 12, YouTube Spotlight was in the first place, and everything seemed this channel would be the winner of this amazing war. But PewDiePie still had a few aces up his sleeve, and on December 23 he made the last step to become a legend.

This war brought him more than 16 million new subscribers that year. Quite an amazing number, which he definitely deserved. Since that time, everybody knew who the PewDiePie is, and his numbers were rising higher and higher. There was no one who could stop him. Until the year 2019. That means the PewDiePie channel was the most subscribed channel from December 23, 2013, to March 27, 2019. More than six years without being beaten. Then came the Indian T-Series channel with which he fought but didn't have a chance to win. Now, PewDiePie is in second place with more than 100 million subscribers.

How much does PewDiePie make a year?

The income of every influencer has several elements. In the case of PewDiePie, money from YouTube is not the highest part of his income. We did a little research and found the numbers which should be as close to reality as possible.

The biggest part of PewDiePies's income comes from the merchandise. You can buy almost anything with his name or logo. From his own figurine to t-shirts and shoes. The second biggest part comes from YouTube ads. And the rest are his marketing revenues. Of course, if he wanted to, he could advertise any product for a huge portion of money, but he really doesn't need to do that.

  • YouTube ads - $2.2 million / month
  • Merchandise - $4.3 million / month
  • Marketing - $650k / month

These numbers give us more than 7 million dollars per month! Can you imagine how much does he earn per minute? He doesn't have to do anything. He can sleep, he can play some games, and every minute, 162$ goes to his account! For someone a dream, for another one the reality.

PewDiePie controversies

PewDiePie is not only a popular YouTuber, but he's also a controversial person. Because of his influence, he has to be careful what he says. Anytime and anywhere. But sometimes, he says or does things that get him into trouble. On January 11, 2017, he made probably the biggest mistake of his career. He published a video where two guys are holding a sign saying "Death to all Jews." Yep, not a clever decision. He did not do it because he agreed with the sign but because he just wanted to make fun of it. But without context, you simply see PewDiePie supporting anti-semitism. His network, Maker Studios, quit the cooperation with him, and there was a huge drama about it.

Another drama came later that year, on September 10, 2017, when PewDiePie was raging while playing and streaming live PlayerUknown's Battlegrounds game. At one moment, Felix shouted to the mic, "What a f*cking n*gger!" And that's really not a thing you want to say publicly, or anytime at all. Of course, he realized what he just said, and two days later, he published a formal apology. But many people still think PewDiePie is a Nazi supporter.

The Most Viewed PewDiePie Videos

Did you know PewDiePie is also a rapper? You should, because his most viewed videos on YouTube are two rap songs he made about his rival YT channel T-Series. Both of these songs have more than 200 million views. The third one is a clip that was edited by YouTube, and you can't watch it right now. What a shame.
